The state general health division has framed a Rapid Response Team (RRT) to explore the purpose for the flood of chikungunya cases with uncommon signs in the city.

The city following 10 years has detailed a sharp spike in chikungunya infection cases, particularly with rare manifestations. CHIKV-positive patients are supposedly showing serious dengue-like side effects and confusions.

Specialists have seen serious complications like chikungunya with encephalitis, meningoencephalitis, myocarditis, gastroenteritis, kidney injury, sepsis, and Guillain-Barré syndrome, both in youngsters and the older, said the authorities.

The RRT was laid out on September 18, under the chairmanship of Dr Radhakishan Pawar, joint overseer of health services.

The group incorporates researchers from the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Dr Babasahed Tandale and Dr Anuradha Tripati; Dr Rajesh Karyakarte, head of microbial science at BJ Clinical School; Dr Nagnath Redewar, top of the medication division at BJMC; state entomologist Dr Mahendra Jagtap; Dr Premchant Kamble, colleague overseer of health services; Dr Amol Mankar, publice health specialist; Dr Raju Sule, state surveillance officer; and Dr Rajesh Dighe, top of the vector-borne infectious prevention program at Pune Muncipal Corporation.

Dr Pawar said it is essential to explore the explanation for the surge in cases and the uncommon appearance detailed in the infected patients.

Pune city this year has detailed 225 CHIKV cases, out of which 139 cases were accounted for in September alone. Treating specialists in city emergency hospitals have noticed serious difficulties in the older and kids with extreme complexities including vital organs.

Dr Kamble said, soon a rule will be given to all private labs and private hospitals to give tests of chikungunya patients which will be shipped off the NIV and BJMC for entire genome sequencing.
